Preparing for your Wedding Day Part 2
It is your wedding. Your own very special day. Make it a no stress wedding, a one-of a-kind event.
Congratulations! You just set the date for the most important day in your life. Your wedding day. Many bridal couples become overwhelmed by all the 'must do's and instead of enjoying the journey get stressed out. Don't be one of them.
Here are a few suggestions that will make the preparation fun.
Keep within your financial limits. Budget your wedding carefully. You do not want to start your joined life in debt. If you are organized have a plan and are creative, whatever your budget, a wedding to remember is do-able.
When you look at the tasks at hand in preparing for your wedding, the list may be overwhelming. . Don't try to do everything all at once. Break your list it into small manageable portions that you can successfully accomplish.
Always remember that it is YOUR wedding. Be sure that it reflects YOU. No one can or should dictate to you what to do and how to do it. Though you may seek advice, the final decision is yours. On the other hand, don't be shy. Accept assistance when offered and solicit involvement from those you believe will be an asset.
Your wedding is a deeply serious and intimate moment declaring your love and commitment to each other. Add your personal touches. If you have children you may consider making them an important part of your wedding. Read the article 'Make your children a part of the wedding'.
Make your wedding truly a one-of-a-kind event. Pick a few aspects of your wedding and make them personalized. The personal touch is what makes a wedding most meaningful and memorable to the bridal couple, their attendants, family and all invited guests.

Preparing for your Wedding Day

Congratulations and best wishes on your upcoming wedding. You are probably busy with preparation for the most important day of the rest of your life. You want it to be a one-of-a-kind, memorable occasion for you and your guests. The following are suggested items you should have on your to-do or done list. Obviously you should adjust and personalize it and add some touches of your own.
Before the wedding dayEngagement
Send out engagement announcements.
Commemorate the occasion with engagement gifts to each other and maybe even with an engagement portrait.
Have you chosen your Wedding rings? Do leave yourself plenty of time to choose the rings, and shop. Where you you purchase, may make a huge difference in price for the exact, same ring.
Wedding Invitations
Once you have set your wedding date, this is also the time to choose and order your invitations and enclosures, envelope seals, thank you notes, all wedding stationery and postage.
Before you choose your wedding stationery you must decide if yours will be a theme wedding.
If so, order wedding stationery that will complement your theme.
You may choose to order pre-printed invitations and wedding stationery from one of the invitation publishers, (Very expensive).
Order invitations to be printed by a local printer, (More reasonable).
Print your own invitations on your home or office printer, (Most economical).

Check the post office for the love, wedding, flowers or other pretty stamps.
Don't forget to make reservations for your Rehearsal luncheons or dinners and the hotel accommodations for your out of town guest and for your wedding night.

Attend to the attire and bridal accessories
Make sure that the bride's wedding gown and accessories, the groom's attire and accessories and the attire and accessories for the mothers, fathers and wedding attendants are ordered and will be ready on time.
At this time you may decide if your gifts to your wedding attendants' will include jewelry to match and complement their wedding attire.
Attend to the ceremony needs
Purchase your wedding accessories collection.
There are many choices of coordinating wedding accessories collections, also called ensembles or sets.
The choice is huge and very varied allowing you to select yours by theme, color, heritage etc... Some collection even offer personalized accessories to commemorate the day.
The basic collection usually includes flutes, cake serving set, Guest book, pen and garter. A more comprehensive collection will include a unity candle set and occasionaly a bridal purse. Coordinating photo albums, cake tops and unity candle holders are usually sold separately.
Whether you prefer to purchase online, in a brick and mortar store or have no preference, the Internet avails you of the largest resource of what is available, where, and price range.
Attend to the ceremony needs
Secure the marriage ceremony site, (Chapel) and officiant(s) and discuss your needs and theirs.
Obtain your Marriage license.
Order the flowers (fresh, satin or silk) for the bride, the groom, the wedding party and the flower and ring children.
Do not forget a Lucky Sixpence for the bride's shoe.
Having purchased your wedding stationery and bridal accessories, (If you are Jewish, don't forget to order a Mazal-Tov Glass bag for the glass breaking ceremony), you need to assign your attendants, kids and adults, the task you expect each to fulfill as follows:
Wedding programs should be handed each guest upon arrival by a person you assign for the task.
Guest sign-in book and pen should be placed in a prominent place and have a special person you appointed direct your guests to sign your book upon arrival at your wedding site.
Flower girl basket should contain either small flowers or rose petals. Have your flower girl spread petals for the bride to walk on when coming down the aisle.
Ring Bearer Pillow is a cushion for the wedding ring to rest on during the ceremony only to be placed on the bride and groom's fingers at the appropriate moment. If you have children place their wedding jewelry on the pillow too. Honor someone dear and special with being your rings bearer.
Have you prepared to deliver special wedding vows to each other? family vows? vows to your children if you have any?
Unity candles are a set containing a pillar candle and 2 tapers. Traditionally the tapers are lit by the mothers of the bride and groom but if your children are old enough have them light the tapers. As soon as the bride and groom become husband and wife, each takes a taper, and together they light the unity pillar candle.
Double check to be sure that the ceremony site's flowers will be placed in plenty of time before the ceremony begins.
Make absolutely certain that each person in your wedding party knows, and is willing and able to fulfil the task assigned them.
Transportation
Arrange for transportation to the wedding ceremony, from the ceremony to the reception and for after the reception.
Attend to the reception needs
Most of your preparations are associated with the reception.
To have the wedding reception of your dreams, you'll need to engage various wedding vendors, professionals and service providers.

General information
We recommend that if possible, both bride and groom will attend all interviews.
First things first!
Always carry a note pad and pen to write down important information and questions that may arise during your interview.
Whether the wedding takes place in your geographical location or is a destination wedding, some people may need accommodations.
Are you planning to have your wedding reception in a resort or hotel ball room?
Will any family or guests travel to your wedding?
How many will need a place to stay?
What are the date of arrival and the date of departure?
Will you stay longer than your guests?
Who will make the arrangements for the lodging accomodations for the bride and groom?
Who will make the arrangements for the lodging accomodations for the guests?
Who will pay?
Whether you interview with representatives of bed and breakfast, resort, hotel, inn or other lodging facilities, the answers to these questions are actually a preparation for your interviews with them.
What to expect of the representative of the lodging facility:
A business card of each person you may work with within the facility.
A brochure that explains what is offered and any exclusions, rules, regulations and options.
References
A tour of the facility including guest rooms, so you may check their amenities. Will your guests be comfortable?
Questions for the representative of the lodging facility:
How long have you been accommodating wedding parties?
How many wedding clients have you served?
Do you offer any guarantees?
What are your rates for the different accommodations (rooms - suites) you offer?
Do you offer a bridal package?*
Do you offer discount for a block of rooms?
Do you offer a free room for every so many rooms?**
Do you provide transportation from and to the airport?
Are any meals included as part of the stay?
Do you provide roll away beds to accommodate children?
Will you deliver small welcome gifts, we provide, to our guests' rooms?
What additional expenses may be charged?
Do you provide an insured and bonded babysitting service?
How much and by when will we need to put down the deposit?
What is the latest time frame for making changes?
Will you provide us with a written contract?
Does the contract include a 3 day cancellation clause?
* If you plan your reception to take place at a bed and breakfast, resort or hotel, it is most likely that they will accommodate your stay for the night before and/or the night after the wedding.
If you ask, you'll find out that many hotels and resorts provide bridal accommodations as part of the package, though it may be presented as their wedding gift to the newly weds.
** Some resorts and hotels offer a free room for every so many rooms.(For every X number of rooms you get one free.)
You made your choice! Now you need to receive a written contract signed by the person in charge, and dated.
The contract must include all of your responsibilities and all of the responsibilities, warranties and guarantees offered by the facility.
Caveat Emptor - Buyer beware!
Read each contract very carefully, on, under and above the line.
Be sure that you understand it fully and agree with all the terms.
If you have questions, concerns, or are uncertain, contact them for clarification.
In most parts of the USA you have 3 days to examine the contract and if you need to, cancel it with no penalties.

How to choose and work with wedding vendors,
professionals and service providers.
Many brides and grooms write to A-wedding Day requesting information about planning their weddings. The typical inquiry is as follows. " We just got engaged. What do we do now? Where do we begin?"
Well, weddings are very personal and each has its own unique character.
It is very difficult to list every possible scenario but the basics are the style of wedding, the size, the budget involved , the location and of course the bride and groom choices and their personalities.
WEDDING STYLE can range form a classic, elegant and glitzy black tie affair to a picnic in a park.
WEDDING SIZE depends on the number of guests.
WEDDING BUDGET can range from a few hundred to thousands of dollars.
WEDDING LOCATION local or a destination wedding.
BRIDE and GROOM choose the setting, the colors, the music, the wedding theme etc... that reflect their personalities and interests.
Some couples hire a wedding planner, some rely on the experience of friends and family, but most, opt to plan their wedding by themselves.
The wedding day is only part of the term wedding as a whole.
Wedding as it will be referred to in this article includes the preparations for, and the activities following the big day including the honeymoon.
So, you got engaged and are looking forward with anticipation, to your dream wedding but do not know where to start and what to do. You are not alone!

It is very important that both of you, bride and groom, start planning your wedding as soon after the engagement as possible. This allows you to:

How to find the appropriate wedding vendors,
professionals and service providers.
Before setting any appointments it is a good idea to:
ask your friend, acquaintances and family for recommendations,
Attend bridal shows
Visit bridal shops and ask for referrals,
Check the internet
Check the yellow pages
Go over the written notes and organize them by priority and ease of use.
Armed with a list of vendors and service providers, it is time for you to pick up the phone and set appointments.
Schedule your appointments by PRIORITY. So, if a specific person or company's participation at the wedding is required, you should contact them FIRST to find out when they have an opening.
If the date is a priority you need to focus on securing an officiant, and a location for the ceremony and the reception, and so on. Do not limit your search to wedding specific service providers such as wedding consultants, caterers, florists, DJs and-or musicians, photographers, ceremony and reception sites and videographers. Vendors, professionals and service providers who also provide services to other types of parties, business events, conventions etc... may be more open to negotiations. You may able to secure their services at a reduced rates or receive a free gift.
Actually, while on the phone to set an interview appointment, request a price quote for a party. Give the service providers the basic information including number of guests, date, and hours requested and ask for a quote. When you arrive at the interview, with the price quote in hand let them know that the party is a wedding. Do not, however, commit until you have accumulated at least a few bids and found the person(s) you interviewed accommodating and easy to work with. Oh, yes! one more thing you need to do before booking any of your vendors. Check them out at the Better Business Bureau to make sure no complaints have been filed against them.
Once you made your choice, do not look for other alternatives or you'll drive yourselves crazy. Instead go on to the next detail that requires your attention.
Be prepared! Go to each interview ready with your questions and information neatly written. Bring a pen and paper and take notes at meetings with the different wedding professionals, service providers and wedding vendors.
